RPA, Automation and Scaling Your Solution

Scalability in RPA

When it comes to Robotic Process Automation technology, it’s crucial to think about the way it can be scaled within your organization. A certain RPA solution may be perfect for your organization initially, but if it can’t grow as you grow it might become a hindrance rather than a help to your operations. Fortunately, Blue Prism’s RPA automation offering has the ability to be scaled. Here, we’ll discuss the three most important aspects of scalability and what they mean for your organization as you consider RPA technology.

Handling Load

Blue Prism RPA software robots, or ‘digital workers,’ are licensed per-bot and act as a single human user, accessing applications just as a human would. This allows workload to be scaled very easily, as an increase in work would simply mean the addition of another digital worker, just as one would normally hire new employees. Digital workers can work 24 hours a day, so it’s important to consider how each one is being used throughout the course of a day, week, and month. For example, it may seem like you need four digital workers to accomplish specific tasks, when you could actually program two workers to split time between tasks and accomplish the same thing. By planning ahead so that you squeeze every last bit out of one digital worker, you can manage cost and efficiently scale RPA to fulfill any kind of workload.

Expanding Robotic Process Automation Usage

When an organization first begins to use RPA, it usually starts with one specific process. For example, an insurance company may automate one tedious part of their claims process, making it easy to see exactly what RPA is doing and how effective it is. Once one digital worker has been implemented successfully, RPA automation can start to be spread across numerous processes within the business.

Digital workers automate processes through business objects. Business objects are driven by a Blue Prism process, which implements the actual business process being automated. Through its Object Studio and Process Studio, Blue Prism makes it easier to create these business objects, so much so that even business analysts can create and implement them, rather than just IT staff. This aspect of scalability is crucial because it means your RPA solution can expand quickly and easily across your organization

Increasing Access

As you work with RPA, it’s important to increase the breadth of access to the solutions you create. Automated business processes often need to access new technologies, such as new applications or integration technologies, that your organization implements. Your processes might also themselves need to be accessed by other software. With Blue Prism, you can download business objects that grant this access through the Blue Prism Digital Exchange, a web portal  that lets staff search for and download already-created business objects. This kind of expanded access can be viewed through the lens of scalability, because it helps your RPA solutions be used more broadly across your organization.
