Things you should know about Vang:
- English is not my first language. I’m a first generation child and we were not allowed to speak English at home.
- I love SPAM. It is one of my guilty(-est) pleasures.
- I can gut and clean my own fish. My dad is a tuna fisherman and though I didn’t touch the bigger fish, I was tasked with de-scaling and de-gilling fish for my mom to cook.
Q&A with Vang:
What’s the most unusual item in your desk drawer?
Pork rinds. It must be my Alabama roots, but folks are often surprised to see me pull a bag of pork rinds and pour it on a plate to snack to. Often times, I just eat them right out of my desk.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
Cooking is a passion of mine and it’s not limited to Asian cuisine. It’s an area I am able to extend my creativity. With each time that I get to make a dish, I can refine and perfect it.
What is your favorite quote, and why?
Roads were made for journeys, not destinations. Often time people only focus on where they’re going to end up. Look from side to side as you head down the path to your destination.
If your future self could send a note to your current self, what would it say?
You will never regret working too hard.
