Things you should know about Kami:
- The automated voice you hear when you call KeyMark is mine.
- I sang background vocals at the Stellar Awards (Gospel Music) at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN.
- While working at a bank in Columbia, I had a man arrested for forging a fraudulent check. He ate the check when the police arrived to try to help himself out, but that only caused him another offense.
Q&A with Kami
If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Nikola Tesla. He had ideas beyond his time, and I’d like to know what his vision was.
What’s the most unusual place you have visited?
Yulansoni Valley in Tanzania. The only power we had was using generators. I was on a team who gave free rabies shots to dogs for the effort to rid the surrounding villages of rabies. We also went to the Ngorongoro Crater on a safari. Lions were right next to our jeeps!
If you could tell the next generation one thing, what would it be?
Look up. Stay woke.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
Singing, traveling, and laughing with friends.
If you could go anywhere, right now, for 5 days all expenses paid, where would it be?
Back to Tanzania.
If you had to get a brand tattooed on your arm, what would it be?
Not a brand, but I’d get “Songbird,” because that is what my late sister always called me. She died in 2006 at 32 years old.
What’s the most unusual item in your desk drawer?
A plastic star fruit given to me from the decorations at Disney during the evening event at the 2014 Hyland Conference CommunityLIVE.
What music do you listen to when no one is around?
80s and 90s hip-hop
What is your favorite quote, and why?
“It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.” – Aristotle
In every dark and negative situation, there is a light and positive piece and I try to always find that. I learned that from my parents and Pollyanna.
At age 10, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A Marine Biologist. Kind of fitting, too since my actual real middle name is Ocean.
